Located on the bank of the river Mole, the Running Horse public house is one of the oldest buildings in Leatherhead. The pub offers an historical tavern inn setting, with good quality food, wine, and a plentiful range of real ale and beer. The pub is near the main shopping area, and is popular for lunch, dinner, evening meals, drinks, and night events. A wide variety of hot meals are served in the pub restaurant during lunch times and evenings, and on Sundays there are many traditional roast lunch and hot meal options available.
Built in the 15th century on land belonging to the church, The Running Horse was originally known as Rummings House, after the infamous Eleynor Rumminge, who was written about by King Henry VIII's poet John Skelton. This poem can be read on a wall in the pub. Historical documents state that King Henry VIII's daughter Queen Elizabeth I, spent a night at the Inn due to floods making the river Mole impossible to cross. It is rumoured that in the 17th century the pub was used as a frequent meeting place for smugglers. This Leatherhead pub has recently celebrated 600 years of providing hospitality.
The Running Horse is a traditional real ale CAMRA pub, serving good quality food, wine, real ale and beer. The lounge bar offers a quiet relaxed atmosphere in historical surroundings, with low ceilings, exposed beams and a real fire. The pub restaurant offers full table service with an extensive menu for lunch and evening meals. The restaurant and patio areas can be booked for a private dinner or buffet.
The pub hosts live music events such as gigs by popular bands and open microphone events. The newly refurbished public bar is where you can play and watch traditional pub sport such as darts and pool. This bar has widescreen television showing sport, music and entertainment. A play area and tuck shop for children is now included in the large garden at the rear of the pub.
